Welcome to Raise My Sail, my name is Rachel Axcell and I have been
lucky enough to be accepted to compete in the Clipper Ventures 2007/08 Round
the World Yacht Race. I have created
this website to publicise my ambition, training, fundraising
and progress. It will provide up to date information, before, during and after
the race with links to sites associated with this effort.

Monday 3rd September - A Sad Day!! All ten yachts have left Royal Clarence Marina, Gosport, for the last time as they make there way to the start line in Liverpool. Unfortunately, I can not sail with them, I have had to return home for one last chance to find sponsors to enable me to complete the entire race. I am still £14,000 short, so looking for any solutions, ideas or contacts? Every donation helps, large or small. On Sunday 9th I leave for Liverpool after packing my kit bags for the last time and saying my goodbyes!
Training Complete!!!! I have now sucessfully completed all of my training for the Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race and can not wait till race start! I have spent the last month living on the yacht, making last minute adjustments, attending sail repair courses and preparing the yacht for the race.
Hull and Humber win Wilberforce Cup, well done guys! Lets hope its only the start of the 7 legs to follow......
Crew Allocation confirms place on Hull and Humber Yacht. My new home is to be the big orange boat! My Skipper will be Danny Watson and have started to meet my crew mates.

Raise My Sail stand at the Mayors Fair, Caistor. After an exhausting week of training, an extremely long drive back from Gosport (with just a few technical hitches on route) and a very smelly kit bag, I arrived back at 3.30am! Up again at 7 but ok as still in my shift pattern. Still swaying from a week at sea, I managed to talk to everyone willing to listen to my venture so far!!
Part A Training, Gosport. I surrvived!! Gale force winds, shifts of three hours on three hours off, lots of bruises and a spot of seasickness (I'm assured it happens to the professionals), absolutely exhausting but absolutely brilliant and I made it to the top of the mast! Pictures coming soon.....
Raise My Sail Fundraiser a success! A big thank you to all the bands and everyone who helped before and on the night! The Food was excellent and a good time was had by all.
